Western Australia is entering a new phase of economic development, with significant opportunities to build on its longstanding strengths in resources and energy while expanding into new, value-added industries. A key focus of this discussion will be how Western Australia can leverage its substantial renewable energy advantages—including its world-class renewable resources, existing industrial capabilities and proximity to major international markets—to move further up global value chains. This includes opportunities to develop value-added industries such as green iron and green steel, while creating new investment, employment and export opportunities across the broader clean economy.

The discussion will also consider what is required to translate Western Australia’s natural and competitive advantages into a globally competitive clean industrial powerhouse and how the role of government is enabling major projects, attracting private and international capital, developing enabling infrastructure and skills, supporting industry collaboration, and providing clear and durable policy settings.
