Efficient approvals processes are central to Australia's economic growth. With $278 billion of construction work in the pipeline, all of which will have had some engagement with planning and approvals processes at some point, improvements here can make significant contributions to improving Australia's productivity.

But enhancing these processes is far from straightforward. Approvals must navigate significant technical complexity, compounded by persistent skill shortages and rising community expectations. Emerging AI tools are well placed to meet these constraints, helping officials navigate vast technical information and supporting more inclusive public engagement.

In this roundtable, we'll share findings and invite debate on CEDA's new report, Approved, delivered in partnership with TechnologyOne - that unpacks how AI and data can transform Australia's environmental approvals. 

The report draws on consultation with over 40 stakeholders across government, industry and academia, alongside international case studies from Denmark, France and the United States. Together, these provide a practical, evidence-based view of how Australian governments can responsibly adopt these technologies and what's needed from departments, agencies and industry to move from interest to implementation.
