A timely discussion on fuel security, rising costs and what’s needed to safeguard Australia against future supply shocks.
Following recent geopolitical tensions involving Iran, Australia is facing growing concerns about its fuel stockpile, future supply, rising costs and the risk of rationing. About 20 per cent of the world's oil supply moves through the Strait of Hormuz, and Australia is now feeling it directly. Tanker shipments have been cancelled, regional shortages are already appearing, and the government has dipped into emergency reserves for the first time in decades.
Australia currently has around 30 days of diesel, 38 days of petrol, and no credible pathway back to the IEA's 90-day threshold that Australia hasn't met since 2012. With 80 to 90 per cent of our fuel imported, this was never a question of if, but when.To unpack these challenges and their broader economic and policy implications, CEDA is pleased to host a virtual roundtable with leading experts. The discussion will explore Australia’s fuel security, the outlook for global oil markets, and the policy settings needed to strengthen resilience and safeguard against future disruptions. This briefing is by invitation only to CEDA members. At CEDA boardroom briefings you will hear from an informed, expert guest speaker in a private, small group setting.
