Australia is facing a growing housing crisis, driven by population growth, decades of decreasing social housing investment, rising construction costs and worker shortages, and regulatory barriers at the local level. Access to secure and affordable housing is key to disrupting entrenched disadvantage. Increasing access to housing where people want to live also leads to diverse communities and increased labour mobility – unlocking skills deployment, essential service delivery, innovation, and productivity gains.
There is not one silver bullet solution – but rather multiple complex and interconnected challenges. To address these system-wide challenges and propose practical solutions, CEDA in partnership with Urbis has embarked on a series of housing reports.
Insights generated from this co-lab will directly influence these reports, ensuring the research reflects the practical realities experienced by industry, government, and community stakeholders. The second co-lab in this series aims to synthesise current challenges in supporting demand, unlocking the right housing in the right locations - including addressing land use and regulations, and supporting social and affordable housing.
Co-labs are facilitated by CEDA Economists or subject matter experts and are limited to a small group of participants. Each participant is expected to actively contribute to the discussion, responding to the set focus issues and leaning on practical examples where possible.
This roundtable is by invitation only. Discussion from this session will be captured by the CEDA team with a view to inform our housing research. Any comments disclosed as commercially sensitive information will be treated with confidence and will not be included in our summary. Please contact the CEDA team if you have further questions. Attendance at this co-lab is by invitation only.
